Artist Statement

As I did not come from an art background, it seemed natural at first to focus on utilitarian pots. If they weren't wonderful, they could at least be used. Now I enjoy the challenge of working within the limits of function. My forms evolve slowly, each pot seeming to suggest refinements or small changes for the next. Even after all these years, it is still a pleasure to make pots that might add a sense of celebration to everyday rituals.

Ursula was born in Aussig, Germany (now Usti nad Labem, Czech Republic). She became interested in clay about 1973 and has been mostly self-taught. She did attend classes and workshops when available, and has maintained a studio since 1993.
