Artist's Statement

Painting gives me so much joy. To paint my vision I experiment with color, shape, and texture. The possibilities are limitless when I can combine acrylics, watercolor, inks, textures, mediums, and found objects. The experimentation is fun and the end result is exciting.

Most of my paintings are abstract or non- representational. I love to travel and take lots of pictures. I then use my pictures and memories of things I have seen to inspire my paintings. I continue taking workshops to explore new techniques and to expand my expertise in creating new art. As an artist, I am very thrilled when someone enjoys my work enough to purchase it and put it in their home.

Bio

Doris Sisk is an award winning artist in mixed media. She graduated from Oklahoma City University, and spent the first 15 years of her marriage moving around the United States and raising a family. During those years she took some art classes, won some awards, and had an exhibit in an Oklahoma City federal building.

In 1971, Doris and her family moved to Huntsville. She attended the University of Alabama Huntsville where she took interior decorating courses. From 1974 to 1977, before becoming a REALTOR, she was an interior decorator. Doris was a highly successful, well-known REALTOR for over 20 years until she retired in 2003. She loved art, so retirement gave her the time to explore art again. She took watercolor and Chinese painting classes and enjoyed these mediums until she took an abstract workshop. She found so much joy in having the freedom to explore and create her visions with all the different kinds of paints and mediums available.

Doris works out of her home studio and exhibits in local venues as well as the Huntsville Art League Gallery at Lowe Mill, and the Coastal Arts Center in Orange Beach, AL. She is a Bronze member of the Watercolor Society of Alabama, and a member of the Quayside Gallery.
